Dr. Katherine Kane, a member of The Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, will be in Kent to provide rabies vaccinations* for dogs and cats.

The cost of each vaccine is $15.00 – ca$h only! 
Dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers.

The Kent Town Clerk will also be on hand for residents of Kent who wish to obtain their 2010 dog tags.  The State of Connecticut requires that all dogs 6 months of age and older be licensed annually in June (CGA 22-328) more info.  The cost of a license is $19.00 for male/female dogs; $8.00 if the dog has been neutered or spayed (proof required).

*All vaccinations will be for one year unless owner brings proof of prior vaccination.

Motion carried unanimously (voice vote): To appropriate up to $200,000 from the undesignated General Fund Balance to be used as bridge funding for Community House renovations to be reimbursed from and expire with the closure of STEAP Grant award on 09/25/2009. 

Motion carried unanimously (voice vote): To authorize the Board of Selectmen or other town officials to apply for, accept and expend funds of any federal, state, or other funds or grants up to $200,000 for general municipal purposes for fiscal year 2010-2011.

Motion carried unanimously (voice vote): To authorize the Board of Education or other town officials to apply for, accept and expend funds of any federal, state, or other funds or grants up to $150,000 of educational purposes for fiscal year 2010-2011.

Motion carried -1 dissenting vote (voice vote): To increase the budget for FY 2010 and appropriate additional funds up to $36,693 to the Public Works Line# 01-041-000.  The funding for this increase was received from the State of CT Town Aid Road Grant on 03/31/2010.

Motion carried 57 to 13 (show of hands):  To accept the recommendations of the Board of Finance for fiscal year July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 and appropriate $10,638,866 to defray the expenses of the Town in accordance with said budget as finally accepted and established.

Motion carried unanimously (voice vote): To appropriate from the Reserve Fund for Capital and Nonrecurring Expenditures an amount equal to the expenditures approved in the FY 2010-2011 column of the 5-year Capital Plan ($555,000).

]]> Tue, 09 Feb 2010 00:00:00 GMT Sewer Users Clogging System with Fibrous Materials Help!  We are experiencing a continuing and worsening problem with non-biodegradable towels and wipes being flushed into the sewer system.  Given the volume of towels, rag, wipes and fibrous materials, it seems they are coming from businesses more than individual households.  These materials are clogging the filters at the plant and have to be removed manually.  It’s not a pleasant task and it is having a negative impact on the sanitation equipment.  It has become an expensive problem.

The solution requires having a separate receptacle for fibrous materials, paper towels, rags, Swiffers, wipes, diapers, etc.  These items don’t break down.  We’re doing everything we can to keep expenses and rates down – not flushing these items into the system will be a huge help.

The second installment of the Real Estate and Personal Property and Motor Vehicle Supplement Taxes for the Grand List of 2008 will become delinquent on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

As soon as the tax becomes delinquent, it shall be subject to interest at the rate of one and a half percent per month from the time such tax becomes due and payable until the same is paid.
