State law provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters who are elderly (65+), or totally disabled (18+ as defined by Social Security) whose incomes do not exceed certain limits.  The Renter's Rebate Program runs from May 15 to October 1.

 CITIZEN’S ENERGY: In partnership with CITGO, Citizens Energy works with thousands of oil heat dealers and local fuel assistance agencies in 25 states to provide deliveries of home heating oil to those in need. The Oil Heat Program provides eligible families a one-time delivery of 100 gallons of home heating oil. Here’s how to apply:  

 Applicants must call 1-877-JOE-4-OIL (1-877-563-4645) to apply for the program. Applications are not 
    available online. 
 A customer service representative will take some preliminary information over the phone. 
 The applicant will receive an Income Verification Form by mail. 
 The applicant must fill in their income, sign and return this form. 
 For qualified applicants, a voucher for oil will be sent to their home. 
 The customer is responsible for contacting their approved dealer and scheduling a delivery. 
 The program approves a one time delivery of 100 gallons per household. 
    Be prepared to call MANY times before getting through. Persistence pays!! 
FREE VITA TAX PREPARATION SITES: The following VITA sites are available to assist and prepare taxes for 
income-eligible persons; CACD (Community Action Committee of Danbury) 66 North St. 203-744-4700. Danbury 
VITA Inc. 152 Deer Hill Avenue Suite 105 203-826-9517. Western CT State University VITA 181 White St. 203-797-
4511. All VITA sites have different hours. Please call ahead and make an appointment. 211 Infoline has details too.  
GOODWILL CAREER CENTER: The Goodwill Career Employment Center is located in the Goodwill Superstore 
at 165 Federal Road in Brookfield. They offer one-on-one job hunting guidance and other employment resources. All 
services are available free of charge to anyone looking for a job. Some of the courses offered include: Resume writing, 
job search, internet and e-mail basics, cover letters and references. For information please call 203-775-5029
FREE DENTAL CLINIC: CT Mission of Mercy 2014 will take place at the XL Center in Hartford on April 25th & 26th. Dentists, periodontists, hygienists and oral surgeons will provide needed dental care to approximately 2,000 patients in two days.  The lines are long so get there early (many arrive before dawn). This program has provided needed care to the uninsured and under-insured since 2008.
